Social media character counter.
Paste a post and see how it fits on every network, counted by the same rules Postbroad applies before it sends a post. Links, emoji and hashtags included. Free, nothing to sign up for, and your text never leaves this page.
How each network counts.
Networks don't agree on what a character is. These are the limits and rules the counter above uses.
Write it once, fit it everywhere.
Postbroad's composer makes a version for each network, warns you before a post is too long, and checks it went live after it's sent.
Counter questions.
Why does X count my post as longer?
X counts every link as 23 characters, however short, and counts every emoji and many non-Latin characters as 2. The counter does the same.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything is counted in your browser.
Do hashtags count toward the limit?
Yes, on every network listed here. The # sign counts too.
Which links does the counter find?
On X, anything that starts with http:// or https://, and bare domains such as example.com, count as 23. On Mastodon, only addresses that start with http:// or https:// count as links.
What is the Mastodon limit?
Each server sets its own, so there is no single number. Enter your server's limit on the Mastodon tab to see what is left.
